Email marketing still leads the chart as a useful medium for internet marketing and beats other social networking sites in terms of marketing for e-commerce. A survey undertaken by Econsultancy reveals that email marketing still find its relevance, and is more preferred as a means of marketing over most of the social networking sites.
The question asked in the survey was in which way do the recipients wish to receive ads or special sales offer. The results revealed that 42% of them would prefer ads and special offers through email notification, 33% of them voted for notification through phone, while 17% favoured notification over online chat, 4% voted for postal mail, only 3% voted for ads on social networking site like Facebook and the least votes went for Twitter, which was just 1% to be precise.
According to the report, 37 per cent of the consumers, which is over one third, do not use social networking sites and are not a regular visitor of Facebook or other social networking sites in the queue. There are a minor number of people who are actually a “fan” or added as a “friend” of a particular brand or company. The survey was conducted amongst 1,400 U.S. customers, who were the “national representative” as addressed by the firm.
While many of the Facebook users consider email marketing to be an outdated technique of marketing for e commerce, e marketers are still positive about the usage of email marketing and consider it to be very economical and useful for mass appeal.

They are also planning to actually reduce the campaign cost of marketing through direct mails and utilize it for marketing through emails.
