According to recent figures, the global wearable technology market rose by 40% in the third quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year.



Although it has been seemingly slow to take off, these figures indicate that the wearables market is finally on the rise. The research, conducted by Futuresource Consulting, predicted that wearable technology sales will reach 52 million units worldwide by the end of the year.

To collect the data, Futuresource Consulting monitored the sales of activity trackers, wearable GPS trackers, heart rate monitors, smartwatches, head mounted displays and other wearable fitness devices between August and October of this year.

Currently, sport and fitness trackers lead the way in the wearable technology market. However, Futuresource Consulting predict that 2015 will see smartwatches becoming more widely adopted, particularly after the release of the Apple Watch.

The rise of the smartwatch market, in particular, could have an impact on email marketers. They will enable users to get instant notifications when an email is received, but they are unlikely to want to spend a long time staring at their watch. The notification they receive needs to grab them, even if they just briefly glance at it, in order to motivate them to read the email thoroughly on another device. This makes your subject line and opening sentence more important than ever. Also, bare in mind that some smartwatches may not be able to display HTML emails, so they need to contain engaging copy as well as interesting images.
