As you will know doubt be aware, Apple this week announced the launch of 3 new devices; the iPhone 6, the iPhone 6 Plus and the Apple Watch. With them, they bring a range of exciting creative opportunities (and challenges) for Internet marketers. Here are some of the things you should be aware of:
The most notable features of the two new phones are their larger screens; 4.7 inches to the iPhone 6 and an almost tablet-sized 5.5 inches for the iPhone 6 Plus. While Apple are not the first smartphone manufacturer to produce a phone/ tablet hybrid device, they are likely to bring them into the hands of a lot more people. With such a wide range of screen sizes now available in the smartphone market, the importance of responsive email and web design cannot be understated – every marketing message needs to work on every device.
While the screen size may initially present some challenges for marketers, the opportunities for creativity have never been bigger. Larger screens lend themselves perfectly to marketing messages with embedded videos and animated GIFs; things which may not have worked so well on smaller smartphones.
Smartwatches are nothing new. The current market leader, Samsung’s Galaxy Gear, has been on the market for a year. However, up until know, wearable devices have enjoyed limited success. Whether the Apple Watch will turn the market around remains to be seen, but it is likely to cause some excitement at least in the short term.
For Internet marketers, this could again creates challenges and opportunities. The small display of the Apple watch emphasises the importance of the email subject line. However, the introduction of a new device brings another channel for Internet marketers, and another chance to get your message in front of a potential customers. No doubt, after its launch in 2015, we’ll see a number of creative ways marketers can take advantage of the Apple Watch.
