How to Import Contacts from a File
To start importing contacts, click contacts. On the contacts screen, click add contacts.
On the resulting screen, if you have a CSV file you want to select import contacts from a file > Upload files. You will then upload your csv file into the file browser.
Next you must decide what you want to do with duplicate contacts:
- ‘Ignore any duplicate contacts’ will not change anything for duplicate contacts.
- ‘Update existing contacts’ will update the subscriptions for duplicate contacts but will not unsubscribe them from any lists they may already be subscribed to.
- ‘Remove existing contacts and create new ones’ will completely remove all data to do with duplicate contacts and place a fresh version of the contact in the database.
Then select the list you want to subscribe the contacts to.
After you click ‘import contacts’ you will be presented with an agreement on what data is ok to use and what data is not ok to use. Check your data against this agreement and if the data complies, agree to the Anti-Spam policy and click continue.
You are now at the mapping stage of the import. This screen is where you assign the individual columns in your CSV file to the custom fields you have. If you have a column that you didn’t create a custom field for, you can create them in this mapping stage as well.
Once you have mapped everything, start the import. The import will then start in the background. Once the import is finished, mailingmanager will give you a report on the data you have imported. Mailingmanager will filter out certain types of contacts out of your list if:
- The email address has a typo (info@gmil.c.uk)
- The email address is on our global suppression for being known as complainers.
- The email address is on our global suppression for being known as a Dead domain
- The email address in on our global suppression for being known as a spamtrap.
Your import report will tell you any addresses that have been suppressed and for what reason they have been suppressed.
